Year 12 computer science students visited St Mary’s church, Hucknall, to follow the story of the computer pioneer, Ada Byron King (Lovelace). She worked closely with influential people of the day, including Charles Babbage, whose work on the Analytical Engine she took great interest in; she could see how a mechanical computer can be used for general purpose computing, such as creating pieces of music, rather than just calculating. Her body rests alongside her father, Lord Byron, in the Byron vault at the church.
